I was driving through a neighborhood in Plymouth to meet a friend and stumbled upon a beautiful garden. This garden demonstrates the kind of garden you can make with an average sized yard and lots of creativity.
The garden sits on a lot no bigger than a typical Detroit area home. Look how creative the design is. The garden takes up every inch of the property, but doesn’t feel crowded. The theme and colors suit the house perfectly.
This garden was worth stopping to photograph. I went back the next day with a dear friend and grabbed these images.
This is the approach to the house from the sidewalk. I love the mature trees that line the streets of this Plymouth neighborhood. I’m also loving the ivy covering the house. It makes it look like the house has been here forever.
There is a great brick path leading from the sidewalk to the front door of the house. The purple elephant ears and orange dahlia look great in the cast iron urns that sit at each side of the entry way.
I love this urn and the cherub statue in the background. The container is packed with great plants like coleus ‘inky fingers’, dahlia, and elephant ears. You can see the landscape light that is used to illuminate the planter at night. Nice touch.
The front yard contains a large formal parterre in the center and lots of foundation plants.
A view of the other side of the formal parterre in the center of the lawn. There is a large fern garden off to the side of the yard that can be seen in the background. Please pardon the light post. I did not want to step on the grass.
I love this formal boxwood garden that sits between the sidewalk and road. The deep purple foliage of the plants match the black cast iron decorations perfectly.
Here is a view of the formal boxwood garden looking from the opposite direction.
This is a great color scheme with the purple Moon flower and decorative kale.
There is a small patio and sitting area off to the side of the front yard garden, making great use of the available space.
Shade loving foliage plants take the place of grass along the side property. I love the standard Rose of Sharon.
The planting around this carport is beautiful. I love the cast iron railing along the top of the structure and the columns. And I am loving the flower boxes you can see in the background windows over the garage.
Everywhere you look in this garden there are beautiful details like this small pheasant ornament. What a special treat to stumble upon such a beautiful place.
